Here are some facts and figures regarding Soundweld’s bell repair work on an average sized bell. (7-8 cwt / 784-896 Kg)

The average repair time for a cracked bell is 42 hours

The actual time spent welding is around 4 hours

The amount of filler metal used is approx. 5 Kg

All sizes of bell can be welded from small hand bells right up to the largest Tenor bells.

At least 4 dye penetrant tests will be performed on the bell from start to finish. These will show the extent of cracking and determine the success of the weld.

The bell will take approx. 24 hours to attain the correct temperature for welding.

It will then be lowered to room temperature over a 36 hour period.

Around 80% of the insulation lagging material used is recycled and used again.

The better use of insulation over the years has allowed a saving of around 45% in heating costs compared to earlier repairs.
