Gussage St Michael, Dorset

We repaired 3 bells from St Michael's Church in Gussage St Michael.

Theyere the 2nd, 3rd and 5th bells.

Enquiries about the 5th bell date back to 1997 however it was only when work by Matthew Higby had started at the church that the 2nd and 3rd were also found to be cracked.

The 5th, which dates from 1608 had cracks in the crown. These were ground out and welded. The bolt holes in the top of the bell were also filled to enable new holes to be drilled for the new fittings.

The 3rd bell has also been ground out and welded and the bolt holes filled.

This bell was found to have a crack in the soundbow. On further investigation the cracking was only found to be on the inside. To remedy this, the cracking was ground away and the indent welded.

All 3 bells have now been welded and returned to their Church
