Derby, St Osmond

The bell arrived at the workshop in Oct 2003.
A dye penetrant test was carried out and the cracking was found to be much worse than was originally thought.

This bell is a single bell from St Osmonds Church in Derby.

It was cast in 1808 and has a lip diameter of 28“.

There were 2 cracks, one of which ran from the crown, over the shoulder and through the inscription band.

When the bell was prepared for welding, the letters “P”, “E” & “A” were damaged.
These were photographed before the grinding took place and then carefully restored after welding.

The bell was completed in November 03 and was returned to the Church to be rung for Christmas.
