Stewkley

This bell arrived from Hayward Mills Associates.

The bell is from St Michael & All Angels Church in Stewkley, Bucks. It is a 16th century bell and has a lip diameter of 33“.

The bell had cracks in the crown and had 6 holes that were no longer needed and so were filled.

The bell also had quite deep clapper indents. Two of these have been filled and two left as they were not deep enough to cause any problem to the bell.

The picture shows the cracks radiating out from the removed cast in staple. It is the rusting of this wrought iron staple which caused the bell to crack.

The cracks have been repaired and the crown of the bell ground to enable a new centre hole to be drilled.

The clapper indents were prepared for welding and then ground afterwards to enable the bell to be re-tuned.
